Godafoss Waterfall, Iceland

The Godafoss or Goðafoss (Icelandic: waterfall of the divine beings or waterfall of the goði) is a standout amongst the most terrific waterfalls in Iceland. It is placed in the Bárðardalur area of North-Central Iceland toward the start of the Sprengisandur high country street. The water of the stream Skjálfandafljót tumbles from a tallness of 12 meters over a width of 30 meters. In the year 999 or 1000 the Lawspeaker Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði made Christianity the authority religion of Iceland. After his change it is said that after coming back from the Alþingi, Þorgeir tossed his statues of the Norse divine beings into the waterfall. Þorgeir's story is saved in Ari Þorgilsson's. Read more
